Num dos livros antigos existentes na Quinta da Furada, lê-se um episódio muito interessante - o relato da existência de ursos até ao séc. XVIII nos montes de Ventozello Novo - antigo nome como o Barão de Forrester descreveu a atual Quinta da Furada, no seu famoso mapa do Douro Vinhateiro. A caça aos ursos era considerada “caça grossa”, um privilégio de poucos, sendo por muito tempo exclusivo da nobreza. Através de forais, como o de Ferreira de Ave, é possível perceber que sempre que se abatia um urso, o caçador tinha de pagar o cobro e dar uma ou duas patas do urso ao dono da terra. Escolhiam como sinal de consideração a pata pois a carne de urso era vendida nos mercados de Lisboa, por exemplo, no entanto não era muito apreciada, ao contrário da pata que era considerada um verdadeiro “manjar dos deuses”. Ainda nessa passagem é descrito que a pata do urso caçado em Ventozello Novo foi oferecido ao Bispo de Lamego, como era hábito e natural deferência.

Assim surge o nome do primeiro vinho que marca o início da produção de vinhos do Douro da Quinta da Furada, o Pata D'Urso, pois até 2017 todas as uvas eram transformadas em Vinho do Porto e desde os anos de 1970 entregues às casas exportadoras do Vale do Douro.

In one of the old books in Quinta da Furada, we read a very interesting episode - the account of the existence of bears until the 18th century. In the hills of Ventozello Novo - old name as the Baron of Forrester described the current Quinta da Furada, in his famous map of the Douro Wine Region. Bear hunting was considered “big game”, a privilege of a few, and for a long time was exclusive to the nobility. Through charters, such as Ferreira de Ave, it is possible to see that whenever a bear was hunted, the hunter had to pay the charge and give one or two paws of the bear to the landowner. They chose the paw as a sign of consideration because instead the bear meat that was sold in the markets of Lisbon, for example, however it was not much appreciated, unlike the paw that was considered a true “delicacy of the gods”. Still in this passage it is described that the bear's paw hunted in Ventozello Novo was offered to the Bishop of Lamego, as was customary and natural deference.

Thus comes the name of the first wine that marks the beginning of the production of Douro wines from Quinta da Furada, the Pata D'Urso, since until 2017 all grapes were transformed into Port Wine and since the 1970s delivered to the exporting houses from the Douro Valley.
